EARLY START OF HOLIDAYS
A single Christmas light string placed over a store entrance in 1925 marked the beginning of the Plaza Lighting Ceremony, a living legend. It has since grown to be the country's most magnificent holiday light show. Every year, beginning after Labor Day, four electricians from Capital Electric use specially designed trucks equipped with lifts to string the lights. As Thanksgiving draws near, workers evaluate the towers and domes by climbing them with shoes and ropes. Following the conclusion of the holiday season, all lights are taken down and stored until the following year's celebration after being inspected, coiled, tied, wrapped, and cataloged.
